Bangalore: Karnataka state was constituted on this day, November 1, 1956 and 55th such day is observed on Tuesday(November1)
On this day, the state government is closing down many primary schools in taluk areas all over the state, where the number of students per class(one to five) is less than 10.
This is the state formation day’s gift to Kannada children. The Government has looked upon primary education from the point of view of a trader, on the basis of profit and loss, rather than as a duty.
In states like Tamil Nadu, Kannada schools are maintained in Chennai by promoters, even if students are not too many, and they cannot afford to keep these classes open after year for Kannada learners.
But here in Karnataka, the Education minister(Kageri) talks of teaching Bhagawad Gita on the one hand, and then, closing down the schools having students less than ten in a classroom on the other instead of subsidising education for rural children under ‘Nali-Kali’ or universal education schemes.
