Mangalore : The Jailininda-Jailige Rangayatre’ a theatrical journey of prisoners, an initiative of Sankalpa and the Department of Prisons, gave vivid impressions of the talents of the prisoners and how they could be mentally transformed by helping them involve in creative works.
The three day extravaganza organized in Mangalore, gave Mangaloreans a glimpse of the talents of prisoners from Bangalore, Mysore and Dharwad in the form of three plays staged by them.
Thursday, the last day of the event, saw the play ‘Gokarnada Goudashani’ by prisoners from Dharwad Central jail.
While the play received a thunderous applause, more touching was to hear some of the prisoners speak straight from their heart. They explained the plight of prisoners and how they have seen a reformation while in prison.
DCP Dharmaiah was the chief guest at the valedictory function which was presided over by Mutturaya, DCP( Law and Order). The play which was staged on the last day was authored by eminent writer Chandrashekar Patil and directed by Hoolugappa Kattimani of Sankalpa, Mysore, and co-directed by Abhinandan Kavale.
Among others present on the occasion were Mandd Sobhann President Stany Alvares and Superintendent of District Prison P S Ambekar.
