Bantwal :   Two thefts have been reported from shops in a prominent commercial complex in the busy Melkar Junction in Bantwal on Sunday night. The thefts came to light on the morning of June 18, Monday.

Thieves who burgled Vaibhav Jewellery Mart have escaped with silver worth Rs 1.5 lakh and cash of Rs 1.75 lakh. However, they could not lay their hands on gold jewelry which were safely away in lockers. In another theft, a cash of Rs 24000 has been stolen from the  Rajesh Bar and Family Restaurant.

In both the cases the main shutter has been broken open.  In the bar, several empty bottles were found making it evident that the burglars had made merry after grabbing the booty.

Investigations are in progress.
