New Delhi: Lashing out at the Delhi police for failing to strengthen law and order, the Supreme Court on Friday said there was no safety in the national capital.
We are more concerned about providing a safe environment for women to live with dignity, said the apex court.
The SC also issued a notice to the Centre on a PIL (public interest litigation) that says licences to chartered buses should be cancelled if they violate the Motor Vehicles Act.
The Supreme Court’s reaction came amid hue and cry over rising crime against women across the country, especially the capital.
The government has vowed to boost security following widespread concern over the safety of women over brutal gang-rape of a young woman in a moving bus in Delhi on December 16.
On Thursday, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said that Delhi Police will conduct night patrol on motorcycles as a step to increase security while telephone numbers of women help desk in a police station will be notified to all schools and colleges in the area.
