Mangalore : The villagers of Thoudugoli a place which is in the border of Karnataka and Kerala and which comes under the Naringana GP limits staged a protest in front of the GP office on September10, Tuesday opposing the Panchayat decision to permit a bar in the village.
Manjeshwar Mandal unit president of the Congress, DMK in his address, criticized the Panchayat to task for permitting the bar. Imtiyaz, President of the Mangalore unit of the DYFI who also spoke, questioned how the Panchayat gave no-objection letter to the bar and suspected that the Panchayat authorities had colluded with the bar owners.
The villagers have even submitted memoranda to the memoranda to the District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai, District Administration and other authorities.
Moosakunhi, Manjeshwar block panchayat committee President, Varkady Gram Panchayat committee President Nicholas Monteiro and Thoudugoli Jamat Vice President Ahmed Kunhi and several prominent villagers took part in the protest.
Protest on September 13 to permit bar : Meanwhile residents of Thoudugoli are planning to stage a protest on September 13 demanding a bar in the village to prevent eh menace of spurious liqur.
They have also said the a village had no hotels and residents had to trek nearly 7 kms for a bar and hotel. Stating that spurious liquor has claimed life here, they said they will protest demanding bar and hotel in the village.
