Tokyo : Twice shaken by severe earthquakes within a week, the last one on Friday afternoon with an intensity of 8.09 degrees on Richter scale, the island country of technologists and engineers that is, Japan reeled under massive deaths, destruction of property and devastation beyond belief in a matter of hours. Hiroshima and Nagasaki went into huddle and past memory, as Tokyo bore the brunt of earthquake blows as a mega city. The Tsunami (high tidal waves of a height of 30 feet or 10 meters immersed city regions. Cars, boats and huge scrappers were surrounded by raging waves of water. Immediate feeling was that a thousand Japanese died in the watery graves.
But over 10 lakh of people in Sendoi city were missing or gone astray before noon on Friday. Huge fires were seen in large buildings, may be, due to short circuits. Fire accidents by the dozen took place in Tokyo and other large, densely populated cities of Japan which has only 4 Islands to live.
In Fukushima province tidal waves struck the populated colonies with an intensity that did not leave much time to run away. Refineries were on fire and atomic power plants rendered inactive. The Japan Govt., has declared an Emergency over the nation. The Northern Japanese suffered most in the melee.
Over 44 lakhs of homes in Japan have no power as lines are cut-off. A ship with 100 tourists is reported missing, probably overturned. Boats and ships on the shore were pushed on the miles by Tsunami forces. No airport is working in this archipelago, a developed country of hard working Buddhist people now.
Udupi Harikrishna Bhat working in HCL Japan Company as president and regional officer told Press media that he was in Japan since 30 years and safe with family but this major earthquake and consequences had not happened before. Balakrishna Shetty of Yermal runs a hotel in Japan. He told on Email, Indians in Yokohama and Tokyo are safe. However, local coastal people in Karnataka are feeling apprehensive over the possible effects of Japan’s earthquake here. People here still talk of Japan’s losses. Tsunami waves were rushing towards USA West, New Zealand, Australia and Russia, it is reported. There 25,000 Indians in Japan watching the events.
