Mangalore : More than 1000 children participated in the Shri Krishna Vesha Competition organized by the Kalkura Prathishtana at Kadri Shree Manjunatha Temple on Sep 8, Saturday.
The competition was a national-level event organized in several categories with the purpose of enhancing cultural and religious awareness among the public and to encourage talented kids. The competition began at 12:00 noon and will continue till midnight.
Sixteen categories were held simultaneously at different venues in the temple premises. These categories were Kanda Krishna for children below one, Muddu Krishna for children below two permitting mothers to accompany their children on stage, Thunta Krishna for kids aged 2 – 3, Bala Krishna for KG and LKG kids, Kishora Krishna for UKG and I Std kids, Shri Krishna for II, III, and IV Std kids, Geetha Krishna with scenes of the Geethopadesha for kids up to VII Std, Yaksha Krishna for kids up to VIII Std with Yakshagana costumes, Radhakrishna, Yashoda Krishna for women as well as children, Shankanada, and a special competition called Devaki Krishna. There was a special category for father and child called ’Vasudeva Krsihna’.
A special category called Nanda Gokula was been introduced, to encourage groups of 5 people of any age group to present an episode from the life of Lord Krishna.
A Shri Krishna Quiz was also held for children up to VII Std. The participants were presented a panchaloha idol of Kadagolu Krishna, books on the stories of Shri Krishna, a certificate, a picture of Lord Manjunatha, and cloth bags.
The children were served hot milk, pedas, and ice creams. Group photos of the participating children were also taken.
