Mangaluru: BJP’s Mangaluru Chalo ‘Jansuraksha Yatra’ which began on March 3rd from Kushalanagar in Kodagu and Ankola in Uttara Kannanda, entered Mangaluru on Tuesday and reached Dr. B.R. Ambedkar (Jyothi)circle from where an immense padyatra was organized towards central maidan. A conference at central maidan saw the culmination of the four day Yatra.
Jansuraksha Yatra, which left from Ankola travelled via Udupi road and gathered at Kadri ground. Kushalanagara Yatra came via Puttur and gathered at Pumpwell.
Later, in the evening at 4pm, taking charge of the Yatra former chief minister Jagadish Shettar flagged off the procession at Jothi in the presence of Yatra leaders MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Pratap Simha and Shobha Karandlaje. The procession made up of thousands of party workers started towards central maidan with lots of slogans and praises.
Party workers were holding placards with photos of murdered Hindu activists and were shouting slogans against the state government. They were also singing songs that were against the state government. All vehicles that took part in the procession where adorned in party colours.
There was heavy presence to avert any untoward incident. Under the leadership of police commissioner T.R. Suresh, police officers along with the force and KSRP force prevented any untoward incident. Additional security was provided since a JDS conference was simultaneously taking in the town hall which is in the vicinity of the central ground.
Since thousands of party workers had assembled to take part in the conference, traffic flow was changed from afternoon 3pm. A little disturbance was observed in the traffic flow. Traffic police made sure that more traffic jams did not occur. Traffic returned to its normal flow after the complete procession entered the grounds.
Water and buttermilk facility was available for the thirsty party workers. Special provision was done to collect garbage that was being created from the use of plastic tumblers used for the distribution of water and buttermilk.
Mangaluru City observed simultaneous conference of BJP and JD(S). Hence, many places in the city saw JD(S) flags and buntings along with BJP flags and buntings. But, BJP workers ripped of some JD(S) banners that were put close to BJP banners along the road divider.
