Mangalore : A Yakshagana ‘Sri Devi Mahatme’ by ateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Prasadita Dashavathara Yakshagahna Mandali was performed at the tastefully decorated Majila grounds in Jeppu on February 9, Saturday night.
Prior to the staging of Yakshagana a colourful procession was taken to the Yakshagana ground. Thee was the tiger dance troupe, Kalladka dolls, chende sets and a huge replica of a cheque of Rs 1,00,333 donated to Yakshagana welfare fund.
There was mahapooja and mass feeding in the afternoon. Yakshagana play was staged after the Mahapooja in the night. Thousands had flocked to Majila grounds to watch the Yakshagana. This is the 42nd year the Yakshagna is being staged under the aegis of Jeppu Majila Hathu Samastharu.
Yakshgana that is played in Majila is famous and unique to Dakshina Kannada as Majila has granted star value to Yakshagana Bayalata.
