Madikeri : Thousands of devotees witnessed Cauvery Theerthodbhava, at Talacauvery—the origin of River Cauvery, in the wee hours of Sunday.
The priests continuously chanted Mantras sitting in a row near Cauvery Brahmakundike and performed rituals for more than three hours. They sprinkled holy water on devotees, soon after the Theerthodbhava.
Apart from the devotees from Kodagu district, a large number of devotees from the neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Kerala had come to witness the auspicious moment.
Devotees gathered near Brahmakundike at as early as 9 pm and started shouting ‘Jai Jai Maatha Cauvery matha,’ ‘Cauveramma kaapadamma,’ ‘Cauverammana padaravindakke Govinda Govinda’.
As soon as the Theerthodbava occurred, the devotees rushed to collect the holy water. Pinda Pradhana (offering respects to departed souls), Kesha Mudi (offering hair) were offered in the morning at Triveni Sangama, the confluence of River Cauvery, Kannika and Sujyothi at Bhagamandala.
As part of Thula sankramana, the Ekikarana Ranga had made arrangements for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the devotees.
The devotees savoured coffee, ‘anna-sambar,’ ‘palya’ and ‘payasa.’ The mass feeding will continue for 30 days.
Chettiyar family of Kerala too had arranged food for the devotees.
