Mangalore : Corporation Bank General Manager Lakshminatha Reddy inaugurates the three-day training programme on ‘Ornamental fish production and marketing’, at College of Fisheries on September 17 Wednesday.
The training programme was jointly organized by the College of Fisheries, Mangalore and the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), Kochi.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said that untapped area like ornamental fish business has got tremendous potential. The sector is got six billion dollar business globally and India’s contribution towards it is less than a per cent. People of the country can supplement their income by bringing together the rich resources and technical knowledge available in the state.
He also said that Countries like Singapore, Czech Republic are good in the field of Ornamental fish business. But India has less academic-industries relation which offers jobs to students after they complete the course.
Sudhir K Patra, Assistant Director of MPEDA and Programme coordinator Prof Shivakumar Magada also spoke on the occasion.
Around 30 participants from Mysore, Shimoga, Uttara Kannada and Mangalore participated in the training programme.
