Beltangady : Puttur rural police station officials arrested three persons for cheating the general public with the lucky scheme introduced under Varidhi Enterprises.
The arrested are identified as Yashwant from Sootegadde in Markanja Sullia, Suresh from Ballakka House in Markanja, and Niranjan from Puttur. While another accused Bharat from Guttigar House in Sullia is said to be absconding and search for him is on.
The arrest operation was led by the Puttur police team led by Puttur rural police sub-inspector, Jagadish Reddy.
The three arrested accused have been produced before the court on September 12, Friday evening, and has been remanded to police custody till September 17.
The accused were functioning the firm at Havishya Complex near Santhekatte till recently. But after the complaints were received against the firm for failing to repay the money invested by its customers the action were taken.
It is learnt that the firm had lured the customers by offering of high interests and lucky draws which enabled them to win bumper prizes like motor bikes, scooty, gold ornaments, LCD television set and others in the lucky draw. The customers were required to pay 50 weekly installments of Rs 100 each, with customers who win the draw need not pay installments accruing thereafter.
Out of 1,500 persons who enrolled themselves for the scheme, 700 customers have not got anything in return for the money paid by them.
The firm functioning under Varidhi Charitable Trust has branches in places like Sullia, Puttur, and Madikeri, and has received complaints against the firm in those places too.
