Bangalore : Three persons were killed and seven injured, two of them critically, in a chain accident on the Sumanahalli flyover in Kamakshipalya on Monday evening. The deceased are Bhavyashree, 23, a resident of Kengeri, Prasad G, 21, and B Naveen both of Jalahalli.
Bharath Kumar, 20, a resident of Chikkabanavara and A Sambashiva, 21, of Jalahalli are battling for life at a private hospital. Shivaraj, 40, Rama Rao, 80, his wife Saraswathamma, 70, their son Suresh and his wife Vani sustained minor injuries in the accident that occurred at around 4.30 pm.
Bhavyashree, Prasad, Naveen, Bharath Kumar and Sambashiva were on their way to Laggere in a car. They were returning after attending the wedding of their friend in Mysore and Bharath was at the wheel. A Tata Ace goods vehicle was moving towards Nagarabavi with Shivaraj driving it. Another car was following the goods vehicle with Rama Rao, Saraswathamma, Suresh and Vani inside and driven by Somasundar. Bharath lost control over the vehicle as he was overspeeding and it swerved to the right.
The car moved on the centre median and collided with the goods auto head on and turned upside down, police said.
Somasundar told Deccan Herald: “We were returning from Tumkur after visiting a temple. I was following the goods vehicle. The car hit the median, flew in the air and fell on the goods vehicle. Both the vehicles turned upside down. I could not control my Innova. My vehicle collided with the goods vehicle. Soon, I took a turn and rammed against the median, after which it stopped.”
“The intensity of the accident was such that two of them were killed on the spot and the legs of the goods vehicle driver were stuck inside. Traffic was disrupted for more than one hour,” he said.
The police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital where Bhavyashree and Prasad were declared dead on arrival, while Naveen succumbed to injuries late in the night. Bhavyashree had recently completed engineering and was looking for a job, while Naveen was an employee at Orion Mall on Dr Rajkumar Road.The police shifted the three bodies to Victoria Hospital.
