Mangaluru : Three youths drowned in Shambhavi river at Sasithota in Muttavu village near Mulki on Sunday.

The deceased are Mahesh,25, resident of Muttavu village, Kishore, 25, from Someshwara near Ullal and Akshith, 24, from Madhur in Kerala’s Kasaragod district.

Police said the trio along with four others were swimming in the river when the tragedy struck around 2pm. The trio did not know swimming, they added. Local swimmers swung into action and fished out the bodies.

DK District youth congress president Mithun Rai, former Kannada Sahitya Parishad president Harikrishna Punaroor visited the spot.

A case has been registered at Mulki police station.
