Mysore: A tigress was found dead five kilometers outside the Nagarahole tiger reserve on Saturday. It is suspected to have died due to blood poisoning owing to bullet wound it had suffered some time back. The death of the six years old tigress exposes the threat the big cats are facing on the forest fringes.
Though the officials are not ruling out poaching, they said they will wait for the lab results to arrive at a conclusion. The tigress had a bullet wound on it and we’ve recovered a pallet. We suspect that the tiger is shot at some time back. The wound is only superficial but the pallet could have led to blood poisoning leading to its death, DCF (Mysore Circle) D S Gaonkar told The Sunday Times of India. He said they are sending the viscera samples to regional centre of Forensic Science Laboratory in the city for a detailed analysis. “We can come to a definite conclusion after we get the lab results,” he stated.
