Mangalore : The Coastal Development Authority which was without a chief, will now have one. Udupi District BJP General Secretary Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde has been appointed to the post. He is likely to take charge on December 31, Monday.
The Coastal Development Authority was formed during the tenure of BS Yeddyurappa as Nagaraj Shetty who had then won the Bantwal election by defeating Congress leader Ramanatha Rai, yearned for a suitable posting. But, the failure of the government to ensure necessary facilities to the Authority which was supposed to chalk out programmes for the development of the district, angered Shetty who had once chosen to quit, only to be persuaded by Yeddyurappa to stick on.
However earlier this year, Shetty decided to quit BJP and join JD(S). Since then the post had been lying vacant.
