Chennai: The Tamilnadu(AIA DMK) Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha today (Monday) vowed never to allow Karnataka to Construct a new dam in Mekedatu(Shimsa), across Cawvery river, under any circumstances.
Karnataka was not honouring the Cawvery Water Tribunal decisions. It tries to fill up its own reservoirs first, and only after that, it releases surplus water, if any, to Tamil Nadu, she told the TN legislature on April 2. Karnataka took a stiff stand on her.
She announced her and state’s determination in obtaining a just share of Cauvery river Waters. The MLAs approved her announcement by sounding their desks.
She added that without TN permission, Karnataka cannot build a dam at Mekedatu on the river waters. She accused Karnataka of using 203 TMC feet of waters for summer irrigation, when the state could use only 103.24 TMC feet of Cauvery waters.
The TN-CM accused Karnataka of not releasing enough water for Kururai crops in June and July, either.
The Mettur dam was not getting its share of waters due to Karnataka storing up waters for its Summer crops. JJ said he Centre did not listen to her in this matter.
