Mangalore: Tourism Department in association with Association of Travel Agents organized World Tourism Day 2010 at Town Hall on September 27, Monday.
Delivering the opening remark on the occasion, DC V Ponnuraj, said that Dakshina Kannada is willing to promote synergy between Mangalore and Lakshadweep.
The meeting held a couple of months before discussed and proposed for tourism Centre in Mangalore. Various works has been held to keep the beaches clean and safe. Most of the people showed interest towards beach, culture, medical and educational tourism, he said.
If the beach tourism has to succeed, then the authorities need to visit the coastal areas and speak to Mogaveera Community and take their suggestion and help to improve it.
The Tourism Department has taken help from some stake holders and further they will render support for the project. The project will be a reality when all interested people come and work together for the implementation, he added.Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty, said that only the interested have gathered at the venue. The people on the dais think they are only talking to the media, due to lack of audiences.
He also said that, In Kodagu district every house has a guest room and Kerala is competing with Mangalore. Hence we must introduce special package to work better between Goa and Kerala.
MLA Yogesh Bhat, in his presidential address, said that Mangalore is beautiful city, but it lacks the potential to work for it.
The Mangalore will further come up with the development like Golf Court, Rope Way Bridge and Tromp connectivity. The tourism has to be planned in such a way that, the tourists of Pilikula must also come to Tannirbhavi, hence the link package must be formed.
Religious tourism must also be implemented and make Dakshina Kannada as the important destination of tourism. Implementation of all these project require Rs 4, 500 to 5,000 crore, he added.
Rasheed Bolar, co-ordinator of Lakshadweep Tourism Association said that, the cruise tourism will start from Mangalore to Lakshadweep directly, instead of boarding from Cochin. The journey from Mangalore to Lakshadweep is of 12 hours and takes just two days trip. It will hold around 21 trips to Lakshadweep in a year and only three ships come back to Mangalore again, he said.
