Mangalore: Deputy Speaker and city MLA N. Yogish Bhat chaired an officers’ conference at the DCO hall on Tuesday, to discuss local tourism growth with an eye on travellers’ conveniences on the west coast of the state, under “ build, operate, maintain and transfer’’ principle, in partnership with private parties, at Ullal (Someshwar) and Panambur (Thannirbavi) beaches.
DK DC Dr. Chennappa Gowda presided over Tourism Development Committee proceedings and conducted minute observation of local participation in plans to develop the two beaches and steps taken safety of visitors in the areas.
Two parties separately have been selected as winning bidders to take charge of these beaches to develop them purposefully. The representatives of the two companies May Yojak India (Thannirbavi) and May Jyothi Advertisers (Someshwar Ullal) made their presentation of plans at the meeting taking into account existing and proposed benefits.
City MLA Bhat suggested that MCC should obtain Rs.2 crores sanctioned to supplement these plans and earmark the amount towards approach roads and waste materials management. He also thought that children could have pond near seashore for swimming, when adults usually go into sea waves for play.
The bidders spoke of Yoga, entertainment and food services in their planned shore development.
MCC Commissioner Vijayaprakash, engineer Mani Narayan, CRZ’s local director Ammannanavar, Tourism officials Mahesh and Prakash, NMPT Executive Engineer Harinath and Fisheries Dy Director Suresh Kumar among others were present.
