Mangalore : The Dakshina Kannada district administration and Tourism Department distributed a subsidy of Rs 2 lakhs each for 60 unemployed youth to buy a four-wheeler taxi at DC’s office on September 27, Saturday.
The subsidy was distributed under the Tourism’s self-entrepreneurship scheme meant for the unemployed youth belonging to other backward communities (OBC) and minorities to encourage them.
District in-charge minister B. Ramanath Rai and Mangalore North MLA J.R Lobo handed over the key to the youths and wished them a good luck.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Rai urged them to attract large number of tourists. Since the government has spent a lot and western ghat and the sea which is districts strength. The administration has also sent proposal to relax the rules of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), he said.
MLA Lobo said that city’s main attractions are fishing and port, Hence people must talk about it. The beneficiaries must use taxi as a medium to attract tourists to the city
It is recalled that recently an assistant director of tourism department was caught red-handed for taking bribe from an applicant. Most from the 60 have said that they have paid the bribe of Rs 20, 000 to get a grant of subsidy of Rs 2 lakh.
