Mangalore: The DK district administration in collaboration with the State Tourism Department distributed the tourist taxis among unemployed SC/ST youth at the DC’s office on May 28, Saturday.
The taxis were distributed under the Special Component Plan (SCP) for SC and the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP). The programme was held under the aegis of Janatha Bazaar and State Bank of Mysore.
According to this scheme, the tourism department will supply 50 percent of the total cost of each taxi and the beneficiaries will bear 5 percent of it while 45 percent of it will be obtained as loans from nationalized banks. Each taxi is worth Rs. 3,59,339.
N. Yogish Bhat, the deputy speaker of the Karnataka Assembly, presented the keys to 21 young men.
K. T. Shailaja, the president of the Zilla Panchayat, Coastal Development Authority Chairman B. Nagaraj Shetty and MLA U. T. Khader were also present.
