Udupi: The tracing of an underground tomb said to be of Stone Age at Santhur near Padubidri, on November 16, Friday, has aroused much curiosity. The tomb was noticed while digging the land belonging to one Ganesh Shetty of Santhur for planting arecanut saplings.
Reports say a similar underground tomb was earlier found near Santhur Subrahamanya Temple,
Noted folk researcher KL Kundathaya who visited the spot, has said that the tomb belonged to Stone Age He feels the tomb is nearly 2000 years old. A Mritha Paatre” an earthen pot wherein bones were preserved was also found the pot even had a lid. The tomb was covered with huge boulders on top
Ganesh Shetty’s mother Amba Shetty also adds that even her husband had found such pots nearly four decades ago while digging a will.
The owner of the land has said he would allow research by archaeologists in the land.
