Mangalore:  The Coastal Traditional (Boat) Fishermen’s Union(CTFU) handed over an appeal to DK-DC, Dr. Channappa Gowda, on Monday to convey their protest against MSEZ proposal to lay an effluents discharging pipeline near Mukka in the sea.

There were a hundred angry traditional fishermen who had attacked a dredger and a tug demanding their removal from the area, earlier.

They wanted the dispute to be resolved first. The boatmen feared destruction of fish, due to discharge of chemical effluents from MSEZ.

Those who eat the dead fish would suffer diseases, they said.

Dr. Gowda tried to win over them by promising jobs ad educational facilities to children, but the unhappy fishermen refused to take the bait, but only politely.

DC told them they could have mechanized boats, instead of wooden country boats for fishing.

The Union members wanted to discuss the matter among themselves, and hen decide one way or the other.
