Mangaluru: Train services were affected as railway traffic signals stopped working at Mangaluru station after a fresh spell of heavy rain lashed the city on Monday evening. Due to heavy lightning and rain, signals failed at Mangaluru railway station causing disruption in train traffic at 8pm. The Mangaluru junction station comes under the Palakkad division on Southern Railway.
At least three trains were held up at different locations due to the snag. Efforts were on to restore the signalling system and ensure normalcy in operations, Palakkad division spokesperson said. According to sources, the signals had not been restored till late in the evening.
“Signals and communications systems failed due to lightining and rain. To overcome the situation, mechanical/manual operations may be required to receive trains at platforms (by setting points) and give signals. This will take more time than electronic operations and also cause delay in train movements, the spokesperson said.
