Kaup: There are reports that some unidentified persons have tried to hunt for treasure in a private land at Moodabettu near Katapady on Monday night. However, the persons fled the scene on seeing the cops.
The search for treasure was done in the land of one Puttuset adjacent to NH 66. The treasure hunters have dug the ground upto four feet deep and six feet wide.They had come by a trax vehicle and when police who found the vehicle on the roadside tried to track its owners, the treasure hunters have fled leaving behind three pick-axe, iron rods, baskets and rope.Police have seized the vehicle and goods.
A similar treasure hunt bid was done here even two years ago. Though there is no exact information if the place had hidden treasure, the place has a well nearby and also a rare Ponnalige tree. People also say a cobra was seen in the area frequently and that the land owner belonged to a famous family.
Kaup police have begun investigations.
