Mangalore: The Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike in city rose up against Bharathhi Shipyard Co., for grabbing 50 acres of land in Tanneer bavi region for its own extension activities, from neighbours. This was another land scam, said Srikant Salian, TRV working president in a press meet called to condemn such encroachments since 2008. TRV has asked the DK district administration to intervene immediately and take back the land.
The Bharathi Shipyard in an agreement with locals entered into in 2006 had rights for only 22 acres on reclaimed land. The Co., had violated the agreement by grabbing more land, Salina said. He heads the Kudroli Bengre Mahajana Sabha that had made the agreement.
M.G Hegde, TRV Adviser told the Press that local residents would fight it out with the Shipyard Co., and secure the encroached land. The Co., had an obligation to provide jobs to 100 residents whose lands the Co., had acquired in 2006.
Several activists of TRV were present.
