Mangalore: The Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike has drawn attention of the bureaucracy to the disorderliness and inconvenient situation in the popular Jeppu public Market that caters to the needs of thousands of citizens in the region. The Forum pointed to the difficulties faced by traders and consumers alike daily in this market to which they throng for innumerous transactions.
There is no roof over the heads of women fish-sellers sitting in hot son for hours to dispose of their goods, holding umbrellas in one hand. The forum has conducted a demonstration on Monday against the dilatory tactics practised by the MCC to protect such fisherwomen.
The Forum has urged the city corporation authorities to mend matters early or face trouble from citizens. Women who spoke at the rally told MCC to arrange water facilities, toilets, and construct roofs over the market place, without any delay.
The fisherwomen also demanded cleanliness in the fish market areas. The speakers warned MCC that they would sell fish right in front of MCC doors if their demands are not met early. More dire steps would be taken for everyday of disregard.
Demonstrations were led by Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike (Protection forum) founder Yogish Shetty of Jeppu, Ratnakar Suvarna, Naveen S.,Taneerbavi, Srikant Salian of Bengre, Moideen A. Munir of Mukkacheri, Suresh Kudroli and many others were present in the gathering. Forum activists and several fisherwomen joined the demonstration.
