Bangalore: A 21-year-old tuition teacher and her boyfriend have been arrested by Rajajinagar police for allegedly kidnapping a 14-year-old student and demanding a ransom of Rs. 25 lakh, on Wednesday.
The accused, Aishwarya, a B.Com student, who also took tuitions for the victim, allegedly planned the kidnap to help her boyfriend clear his debts. The victim has been identified Pavitra.
According to the police, the accused, Nagabhushan (26), an MBA graduate, had incurred losses in a hotel venture. the police said.
During the course of tuition classes, Aishwarya reportedly came to know that Pavitra’s parents were looking to purchase a house from their savings. Under pressure from money lenders, the couple chalked out a plan to kidnap Pavitra and seek a ransom of Rs. 25 lakh to clear their debts.
As per the plan, Nagabhushan, on Wednesday, followed Pavitra when she left home for tuitions, and offered her a lift. He took her to his house in Banashankari and locked her up after tying her hands and legs, and gagged her mouth. Later, he called up Pavitra’s mother and placed a demand of Rs. 25 lakh for her safe release.
Shocked by the turn of events, Pavithra’s mother went to Aishwarya’s house and found that she was missing. The Rajaji Nagar police swung into action, and on suspicion verified the call records of Aishwarya, who was calling Nagabhushan frequently to give updates. On detailed questioning, Aishwarya reportedly confessed to the crime. The police rescued the girl and later asked Aishwarya to call Nagabhushan to come and collect the money near Binny Mill. The police arrested Nagabhushan when he came to collect the money.
