Mangaluru: Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike observed November 1 as black day in Mangaluru to condemn central government’s negligence to include Tulu language in the eighth schedule of Indian constitution. The pro Tulu activists staged protest before the office of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner and urged the concerned to focus on the issue.
Speaking on the protests organised, Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike founder president Yogish Shetty Jeppu said, Tulu Nadu split into two parts on November 1, 1956 when Indian states reorganized after independence based on language. Southern portion of Tulu Nadu including present Kasaragod moved with Kerala which caused for the loss of identity of Kannadigas residing in the area. Karnataka Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaruru, leaders of Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike and others were present on the occasion.
