Brahmarakootlu: Consequent upon the stoppage of collecting tolls at the Pane Mangalore Toll Plaza connected to NH73 (Surathkall to Panemangalore), one of the ex-employees of this Plaza was found holding fake papers and collecting fresh tolls from lorry drivers and other vehicles passing from Panemangalore to Surathkall at night on Dec.10 or earlier, when this Plaza had been closed following public outcry against collection of tolls at two Plazas for NH 73 and 75 last week.
The two plazas were only 4 km away from one another, so NH authorities had to close the Toll Plaza at Panemangalore this week. Nevertheless, Ravindra an ex-employee and his associate, Arafat, started collecting tolls illegally without permission on fake bills and Receipts from passing vehicles on NH 73 such as lorries and Vans, forcible to amass illegal wealth to themselves.
On a complaint lodged by Lorry drivers and local people against Ravindra for his misdeeds of forcible toll collection when the Plaza had been closed, the police on Dec.10 caught him and Arafat red handed at Panemangalore in the presence of local peoples and seizes the money the duo had collected at night earlier. The 2 were produced in court and taken into custody on Tuesday.
However the Toll Plaza at Brahmarakootlu on NH 75 from Mangalore to B.C Road continues to remain open and tolls are collected from Bus drivers, Lorries, Vans and other vehicles as notified by a staff specially trained and young in activity as per orders of NHA.
