Mangaluru : The controversial beef stalls in the Ullal Municipality limits have been set on fire late Fridayin the early hours of Saturday.
Unidentified miscreants set two makeshift beef stalls ablaze in Olapete, Thokottu, It is said.
Vinay A Gaonkar, DCP (crime and traffic), said several temporary shops, which will soon be shifted to a permanent place, were operating in Olapete, and they included a few beef stalls.
N Shashi Kumar, police commissioner, Mangaluru, along with a team of cops and officials from other departments, visited the spot on Saturday. Ayyub Manchila, vice-president, Ullal City Municipal Council, said all the shops were running under a valid licence. The incident may have taken place around 3am. New arrangements will be made for the vendors.
A case has been registered at Ullal police station.
The Bajrang Dal and VHP have appealed to the police department and the Ullal municipality to remove the beef stalls.
