Udupi : The two-day Sri Krishna Jayanti celebrations in Udupi culminated with the grand finale of Mosaru Kudike Habba or Vitlapindi on Sep 17, Wednesday.
Thousands of devotees thronged around the Car Street and took part in the spiritual and cultural extravaganza in the city.
On the occasion, presiding deity Lord Krishna was specially decorated with ‘Vajrakavacha Alankar’. The Idol of Lord Krishna made in clay was taken around the procession in the golden chariot.
Paryaya Kaniyur mutt seer Vidyavallabhatheertha Swamiji offered ‘Mahamangalarathi’ to the Krishna idol in the chariot.
Later the ritual of throwing coconuts and fruits at the devotees was held. Eatables like laddoos and chakkulis were distributed among the devotees as ‘Prasadam’.
The ‘Dahi Handi’ team from Mumbai, comprising 200 men and 150 women presented an enthralling performance. The formation of human pyramids to break the pots by them mesmerized the gathered audiences. Apart from it, the tiger dance artiste’s added additional attraction of the procession.
After the procession, the idol of Lord Krishna was immersed in the main temple tank ‘Madhwa Sarovar’, near to the temple. Later the seers and the devotees took a holy dip in the tank on the occasion.
As a part of event, many police personnel’s were deployed for the elaborate security arrangements made for the smooth conduct of the celebrations.
