Mangaluru: Third additional district and sessions court judge B B Jakati sentenced two gram panchayat employees to four years of simple imprisonment, and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on them, in a bribery case that took place in 2014.
Special public prosecutor Ravindra Munnippady said that N Sheshadri and Thimmappa Poojary, who were serving at Moorugoli gram panchayat in Belthangady taluk, had demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a person, in order to regularise his house. Following a complaint being lodged by the aggrieved person, the Lokayukta police had lodged a case against the duo.
The accused have been sentenced to three years of simple imprisonment, and a fine of Rs 20,000 imposed on them, after finding the duo guilty under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and four years of simple imprisonment, and Rs 30,000 fine, under sections 13(1)(D) and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Inspector S Vijay Prasad submitted the chargesheet before the court.
