Mangaluru: A social service organization,Namma Mangaluru’ has alleged two medical college hospitals in the city fleece an exorbitant cost for conducting post mortem examinations.
Complaining of Unethical practice, the organisation members have handed over a written complaint to S.Murugan, City Commissioner of Police S Murugan and have demanded action against the hospitals.
The press release of the organisation stated, that said two college hospitals –one situated at Kankanady and Kuntikana and collect about Rs 3,000 per post mortem and even issue cash receipt for the same. In the receipt it is mentioned, that the amount has been collected for ‘handling of the dead body’ by manipulating to hide the facts.
Cost for Post Mortem done during the day is Rs.2500/- while the one’s done at night, the hospital collect Rs 3,000..
“Fleecing exorbitant fee for post Mortem examination, from the grieving relatives of the deceased seem to be a new unhealthy practice at these two centres. The fees is very much less, for the same,at Government Wenlock Hospital, KS Hegde Medical Academy and Yenepoya Medical College Hospital.. Since the police officers are present at the mortuary when the payments are made, public do not have the courage, to question injustice meted upon them,” the release stated.
