Mangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada Legal Services Authority will hold two-hour legal literacy programmes in five government schools and government aided private schools every second Saturday from August in Dakshina Kannada on Saturdays.
These schools are the first in the district to start legal literacy clubs.
Member-Secretary of the authority Mallanagouda said that the legal literacy programmes will be held at the government schools in Muttur village in Mangaluru taluk, Koiyur village in Belthangady taluk, Montepadavu in Bantwal taluk, Panja in Sullia taluk and Pambettu village in Puttur taluk between August and January.
He said that the authority has proposed to hold programmes to make children aware, among others, of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, Registration of Birth Act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, Child Marriage Act, Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, Human Rights Act, Mental Health Act, Environment Protection Act, laws relating to road safety, ragging and drug abuse.
