Mangaluru : Two leopards are reportedly moving on the outskirts of the city, and they have been sighted at Uchila and Surathkal.
The Forest Department has been receiving information from people about the prowling leopards. They have asked people, especially those living near the forest area, to be careful during evenings and night by not letting their children out.
The leopards currently seem to be targeting dogs as the department has been receiving complaints of leopards taking away some domestic dogs during night.
Clifford Lobo, Range Forest Officer, Mangaluru confirmed that a leopard was moving around in the Mudipu-Someshwar-Uchchila-Talapady sector. About two days ago the department received information about it being spotted near Uchchila.
Another leopard was moving in Mulki, Kinnigoli, Bajpe, Polali, MRPL, MCF and NIT-K, Surathkal area. The department received information about the animal being spotted around the NIT-K area on Sunday night, he said.
Mr. Lobo said the animals were smart in that they kept on moving around and never stayed in a particular spot.
The department has been shifting cages kept for them from one place to another.
Cages have been kept near Bajpe and near Mudipu. He said the animal in the Mulki-Bajpe area was moving around for the past six months while the one in the Mudipu sector for the past over a few days.
