Mangaluru: Coming to the polling booths, standing in a queue and casting one’s vote is the method. But, here it is not so. One does not need to stand in a queue after coming to the polling booth. Instead, on reaching the polling booth, the officers there in will immediately give a token and untill the number comes, one can take rest.
This change in method will be witnessed on May 12th at Ladyhill Victoria High School booth number 12 and Gandhinagar S.H.Pr. school booth number 74.
The district administration has decided to convert these two polling booths to follow this model. For this, under the direction of district commissioner Sashikant Senthil and under the guidance of G.P.CEO Dr. M.R. Ravi, attempts are being made to make these polling booths uniquely attractive.
All forms of modern facilities will be installed at these polling booths. In this way, both the polling booths will take a corporate form. No queues will be seen here. Voters arriving to vote can straightaway cast their vote. If there are voters who have come before, tokens will be given. Until then, chair, bench, sofa and other facilities will be available for the voters to rest.
The two polling booths in Mangaluru will be decorated like the house of marriage. Work will be carried to decorate the polling booths from the entrance itself. The polling booths entrance will be decorated with cloths and paper to welcome the voters. From the entrance itself, there will be notice boards at regular intervals giving information to the voters. In this way, attempts are being made to prevent the voter from getting confused about anything. Also the interiors of the polling booths will be decorated with balloons.
Currently it is summer and the temperature is ever rising. In order to prevent the voters from facing any difficulties due to the heat, cooler facility will be provided. Fan facility will be available throughout the booth. Drinking water and first aid facility will also be available here.
If the voters are compelled to come to the polling booth with their children, they are not allowed to take the children inside with them. Therefore, an Anganwadi worker will be appointed to look after the kinds in this situation. Also toys will be provided for the kids to play.
Polling booths at Kerekadu in Moodbidri, polling booth in Mangaluru central and five other polling booths in the district have been identified as traditional polling booths. Artists have been procured to decorate these polling booths as per the culture of the specific area.
A total of 5 polling booths in three legislative assembly constituencies of Managaluru taluk and one polling booth each in five legislative assembly constituencies in the district will be converted to be women friendly. Pink colour decoration will be used from the entrance until the polling booth to make them women attractive. The staff will also be dressed in Pink and pen used too will be of pink colour.
