Mangalore: Today, Saturday December 31 is the last day of Year 2011. There are violent storms on the least coast at Cuddalore and Paducherry, killing 33 persons and overturning palm trees and electric poles at Marina beach, Chennai and other places, due to fast winds.
Here in the West coast of Karnataka, black clouds gathered on Friday evening but no rains. The chill out of a cold wave lasting a week, is on the decline, but cool strong winds prevail evening sunshine on week-end and year-end.
A man and his relative (Nephew) were swept away by violent sea waves at Tanneerubavi coast on Friday evening and were drowned.
Haren D’souza (15) who went a little too far during an outing on the beach with family members, was carried away by waves and William D’souza (58) who ran after him to save, also was not spared while swimming by strong waves. Both died by drowning.
There wee 20 people on the beach at the time, and no guards Locals reached late to catch or rescue the drifting two some, but could not save hem. The incident took place around 4 to 5 PM.
The families had a tragic even on hand at their outing in Christmas season. Haren was a 10the standard student.
The bodies were sent to AJ Hosptial. Panambur police are investigating.
