Mangaluru : We need to check whether the water will have fuel content when the water is stored after draining the wells said, District In-charge Minister U T Khader.
The minister visited Kanekere in Deralakatte, wherein water from wells, following contamination, turned into flame when lit, on Monday.
The residents demonstrated how water is catching fire.
Khader told media persons, “I have discussed the issue with the deputy commissioner. The water samples will be sent to NITK and experts for testing the fuel content in water. The contaminated three wells need to be cleaned by draining the water.
He said Belma Gram Panchayat has been supplying water for one hour to the residents to ensure that there is no water crisis. “I have directed the Zilla Panchayat engineers to identify a point for sinking borewell in the region. The report on untreated sewage mixing with the water should also be submitted to the deputy commissioner,” he said.
To check mosquito menace, free medicated nets will be distributed. A sewage treatment plant will be constructed at a cost of Rs 20 lakh in the vicinity for treating sewage water, the minister said.
Following the contamination of water in the well, Indian Oil Corporation officials have ruled out seepage of fuel from a nearby fuel station. The residents, who noticed oily substances in the water catching fire, had suspected that leakage from the fuel station has contaminated the well.
