Udupi: Republic day celebrations today were held in Udupi with Indian national flag-hoisting done at the Ajjarakadu Grounds.
Addressing the gathering, Dr.V.S Acharya recounted the development plans implemented in his district so far. He assured equal opportunities to all to reach their full development in a free nation. He asked the citizens to preserve the natural resources and perform their duties first.
A sum of Rs. 20lakhs had been set apart for tourist resorts and their improvements. Under Rural Uplift plan, a sum of Rs24 crores was reserved for poverty stricken families towards housing them.
Another amount of Rs. 2.20crores was waiting for self help organisations and disabled persons.
Several sports persons were honoured the occasion.
MLA Raghupathi Bhat, ZP Chief Gladys Almeida, TM Chairman Kiran Kumar, TP Chief Shyamala, Bharti.C., and other guests were present.
There was a March past by NCC and police personnel after the flag was hoisted and salute was taken.
