Udupi: The Udupi –Chikkamagalur Lok Sabha seat by-polls, consequent upon CM Sadanda’s resignation as MP and becoming MLC in sate, have been fixed by control Election Commission to hold on March 18, and the result would be known as on March 21 next.
Three major polities are in the ring to fight it out, with JD-S showing an interest in capturing a seat on the west coast, and HD Kumaraswamy, MP, touring Udupi and other places on a campaign.
Congress may set up the old house Jayprakash Hegde, while BJP may give the nod to Udupi chief Uday Kumar Shetty. Notifications are due on February 22 in regard to holding by-pools. One week (up February 29) is given for filling nominations.
JD-S has not revealed its cards in the matter!
Along with this by-poll, five sates will have 11 Assembly seats elections as well, for various reasons. Seven of them relate to Andhra sate.
The other sates covered are, Tamilnadu, Kerala, Odisha and Gujarat.
