Udupi: The Udupi City Municipal Council ruling party members assaulted a person in general meeting is condemnable,  said Mattar Rathnakar Hegde district president of BJP on Thursday, June 29.

Speaking in a press meet held at the District BJP office he said that, this is the first time the council witnessed Congress party members showed its culture by manhandling a public person during the council meeting, he alleged.

It is said, A person namely Rony D’Mello entered the council meeting to give clarifications on the problems of councilor Geetha Shet of Kadiyali ward. In that time ruling party councilor Ramesh Kanchan, RK Ramesh and others assaulted him and even they assaulted their own councilor Geetha Shet also.

Councilor Geetha Shet had personally called Rony D’Mello to give explanation, As per Municipal Act in the Council meeting, the public are not allowed to speak. but they can view the proceedings of the CMC Meeting. The president and commissioner can convince the rules to him, but they made a criminal offence of assaulting. Hegde said.

The matter already noticed the district police superintendent and asked him to take action against the councilors who assaulted Rony D’Mello and Geetha Shet.

The district BJP will protest against the incident on Friday, June 30 evening, he informed.

Raghupathi Bhat former MLA, Yashpal Suvarna Councillor CMC, Kuiladi Suresh Nayak, Naveen Shetty Kuthyar and Katapadi Shanker Poojary were present in the press meet.
