Udupi : Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Mutt, will be the special invitee at the  inauguration of the new Diocese of Udupi on October 15. The first Bishop of the Diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo will also be installed on the occasion at the function to be held at Kallianpur Milagres Cathedral Grounds on October 15. The new Diocese of Udupi will include the three taluks of Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala.The Church of Our Lady of Miracles will be the Church-Cathedral of the newly-erected diocese.

The Pope Benedict XVI had announced the erection of the diocese of Udupi and appointed Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo as its first bishop in July.

Apostolic Nuncio in India, Dr Salvotore Pennacchio will be the principal prelate along with Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo as the main celebrant of the Mass.  Dr Salvatore Pennacchio, Apostolic Nuncio in India; Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore,  Oscar Fernandes, AICC general secretary and Rajya Sabha member, Kota Srinivas Poojary, Minister for Muzrai, Jayaprakash Hegde, MP, Raghupati Bhat, MLA of Udupi; Dr M T Reju, Deputy Commissioner and several others will be present on the occasion.
