Udupi: Udupi district has borne the brunt of monsoon fury this year with loss of crops and properties of common citizens. The loss estimated in the last 2 days (Sunday/Monday) reached Rs.17.60 lakhs. A woman was washed away in strong currents of water here.
22 pucca housed have collapsed, 25 areca trees were uprooted and in Udupi taluk 39 katcha houses fell, said Dt.minister Dr. V.S. Acharya in a press interview on Tuesday. 12 coconut trees fell. Total loss in the taluk went up to Rs.844 lakhs, he informed. 60 persons were rescued by home guards, policemen and volunteers, and rehabilitated in Conjee Centres(Ganji Kendra) last week. In Kundapur taluk, 21 houses fell. A primary school was damaged. A deed body of a young woman missing for 2 days was found in swollen Souparnika river, near Uppinakudru Elected Dignitaries attended the press meet.
