Udupi:  Five Congress supported candidates, 2 BJP backed candidates and one JD(S) supported candidate have been elected in the by-election held for eight Gram Panchayat constituencies in Udupi district. The elections were held on September 9.

The BJP backed candidates who were elected are: Leela Poojarthi(Nalkuru gram panchayat),  Rekha  in Durga Gram Panchayat of Karkala. Winners from Congress : Ammakka, Manjamma (unanimously elected) in Uppunda of Byndoor Udupi,. Congress backed candidates : Ramananda Shetty in Hanehalli gram panchayat of Kundapur,  Rama Kharvi  in Navunda and  Vanitha Nayak  in Trasi. Mansoor Ibrahim  who won from Maravanthe is the JD(S) backed candidate.
