Udupi : A young gymnast from Pangala in Udupi lost his life while traveling atop of a local train in Mumbai on April 8 night.
The deceased was identified as Nivedan Gunakar Shetty (40), resident of Pangala. He was working as a gymnastic trainer at Singapore since six months. After Shetty went to Mumbai to try his luck in Bollywood, he came four days before the tragedy struck.
It is said, on April 8 was a festival day, lakhs of people had gathered for celebrations and local trains were overfull. Shetty found it difficult to enter the compartment and decided to travel atop the train. However, tragedy struck as soon as the train entered Dombivli. Shetty was electrocuted when he came into contact with 24,000 volts of power cables at the station.
The Railway police at the station immediately disconnected power supply and rushed Shetty to a nearby hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
It is said that Shetty’s parents were still grieving the loss of their elder son Nishchal Shetty in a road accident at Kaup in December 2015 when this tragedy struck. Sources say that Shetty was not able to attend his brother’s funeral as he did not get leave.
Shetty was an alumnus of Vijaya College, Mulky from where he completed his B.Com.
The Railway police registered a case and investigations are on.
