Udupi:  Outstanding women achievers were honoured on behalf of the Udupi Mahila Congress as part of International Women’s Day. The function held at the Udupi District Congress Bhavan at Ajjarkad was inaugurated by Shyamala Bhandari, Vice President of KPCC.

In her address, she said modern day woman stands on equal footing with men in all fields. She claimed that the various Congress governments have made instrumental efforts in empowering women both socially, economically and politically. She said laws have been amended to ensure more security to women and help them lead a safe life.

 Veronica Carnelio, Udupi District Mahila Congress President, Gopal Poojari, Udupi District Congress President, Vasanth Salian, former minister, Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi Block Congress President, MA Gafur, KPCC Secretary, and several Mahila Congress leaders namely Lakshmi Bhat, Jayashree Bhat, Jayashree Krishnaraj, Sarasu Bangera and Sarala Kanchan were present.

 Outstanding women achievers namely Sunitha Lobo, Special Olympics Award winner, Vanaja, care taker of Beedinagudde Crematorium , Dinesh Kejur, Sabitha Gundi who hail from SC community and have succeeded in the UGC exam, Dr Babu, Ph.D degree holder were felicitated. Even women presidents and vice presidents of gram panchayats were honoured
