Udupi: The district police cracked a robbery case reported three months ago in which a gold trader traveling from Mumbai to Kerala was looted of 4 kg gold. The robbers had threatened the man with a pistol and a knife near Padubidri on September 17. Kaup police have now arrested seven accused in the case.
At a press conference here on Tuesday, Udupi SP Dr Sanjeev Patil said, “The arrested accused are Mithun Vanian (31) from Madikeri native and a resident of Raigad, Maharashtra, Pintu Arjun Chaudhari (32) of Gaya, Bihar, Yogishwar Singh alias Yogish (24) of Udaipur, Rajasthan, Prabhulal Gurjar (30), Mukthar Ibrahim (24) and Riyaz (30) from Kasargod and P K Murugan (49) from Trissur in Kerala.”
Mithun and Pintu were arrested on November 21 at Ullal railway station. Yogeshwar Singh and Prabhulal were arrested on December 3 at Girgaum, Mumbai. Mukthar and Riyaz at Pampwell in Mangaluru on November 17 and Murugan was arrested in Thrissur on November 23.
Police have seized 1.6kg gold worth Rs 31.8 lakh, a country revolver used in the robbery, two bullets, a machine used to melt gold worth Rs.10,000, a Hyundai i20 car, six mobiles, a knife and Rs 3,720 cash. Their total worth is Rs 40.25 lakh.
