Udupi: Tight police security has prevented any untoward incident taking place, during a call given by Karnataka Raitha Sangha (KRRS) and Hasiru Sene (Green Army) on Monday, Dec 26, which received maximum response, as shops were closed and transport (bus) system came to grinding halt in the temple town.
The bundh was called in 9 villages around UPCL project, where power production has resumed amid public annoyance ever dust and ashes. Several labour unions supported the strike here.
The bundh was timely, peaceful and successful, observes felt. There was no vehicular movement on town roads. The fishing people joined in the protest, as the rejected materials were dumped into rivers and sea, to kill fish. The Mogaveeras in Padubidri, Yermal, Uchil, Muloor, Kapu and other surrounding places stayed away.
Emergency services were spared the trouble, like milk supply, newspapers and medical services including ambulance in the striking areas.
