Udupi : State Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs MP Appachu Ranjan has said that a swimming pool of international standards would come up at Mahatma Gandhi District Ground at Ajjarkad and that the government would release Rs 2 crore for the purpose.
Speaking to reporters after participating in a review meeting on sports hostels and construction of stadiums, the minister said the swimming pool project would in all require Rs 4 crores.
He said a sports policy would be finalized in two months. On the shortage of coaches to train youngsters, he said the government may even think of appointing foreign coaches.
Legislator Raghupathi Bhat informed that the Karnataka Badminton Academy has selected Udupi as the second KBA centre and added a 20-day camp for 50 players is being planned.
